Andrew graduated from Otago University of Medicine in 2009. He moved to Hamilton after working a couple of years in Palmerston North Hospital.

He worked a few years in Waikato Hospital mainly in the medical fields, before becoming a GP. He enjoyed this transition very much, and thinks it is the best decision he has made in his medical career.

Originally from Malaysia, Andrew is now married and has settled down in Hamilton.

Originally from the UK, Angela graduated from Cambridge University in 1999. After several years’ experience in Emergency and General Medicine, she went on to qualify as a GP in 2007.

Angela migrated to NZ in 2008, initially working throughout the North Island as a Rural GP Locum, before joining the HEMC family in 2014. She currently works part time, 3 days a week, and also works as one of our Urgent Clinic Doctors.

Away from work, Angela has a busy family life with her husband and 2 small children. She enjoys running and yoga, tramping and travel, as well as gardening and cooking.

Asit completed his medical training in India and worked in the Middle East before moving to New Zealand in 1998.  He joined Hamilton East Medical Centre in 2005 after a few years as Registrar in ENT at Waikato Hospital.

Asit has special interests in ear, nose and throat (ENT) and minor surgery.

A good listener, Asit enjoys the scope of general practice and the opportunity it provides to know the patients and help them remain well in all aspects of life.

Bala qualified in India (1987) and worked in the United Kingdom as a specialist (Obstetrics and Gynaecology). He became interested in general practice with the challenge it provides, and retrained in 2000 and worked as a GP until 2005.

Bala moved to New Zealand in 2005 and worked in Putaruru and Te Awamutu before moving to Hamilton East Medical Centre.

Bala enjoys preventative medicine, managing elderly patients, women and children’s health. He was involved in teaching medical students, interns and registrars.

Bala is married and has two children. He enjoys tramping, sailing, cooking, gardening and playing tennis in his spare time.

Bert was born in South Africa. He attained his medical degree in Johannesburg, South Africa inAccredited Doctor logo 1989 and moved to New Zealand in 1994.  He has been part of the Hamilton East Medical Centre team since 1995.

Bert qualified in South Africa and obtained his Diploma in Dermoscopy from the University of Gratz in Austria, and his Diploma in Skin Cancer Medicine and Surgery through the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.

His interests include minor surgery including vasectomies and men’s health.

He is married to Carrie, and they have three daughters. His hobbies are cycling and gardening.

Haseena Hussain has been a GP at Hamilton East Medical Centre since 2010 where she works part-time, four days a week. She enjoys being able to provide  a holistic approach to patient care  by using the bio-psycho-social model.

On Mondays, she works at the Waikato Hospital  rheumatology clinic. There, she sees new patients referred by her GP colleagues from the community with musculoskeletal problems. She also does follow-up of patients with chronic rheumatological conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, scleroderma, gout etc. She is experienced in doing steroid injections for soft tissues and joints.

Joe grew up in Hamilton and graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1995. He has been at Hamilton East Medical Centre since 2001.

He is a fellow of the New Zealand College of General Practitioners and has postgraduate qualifications in travel medicine, skin cancer surgery and dermoscopy (skin cancer detection).

He has an interest in musculoskeletal medicine, skin cancer and family medicine.

In Julian’s earlier days at Hamilton East Medical Centre he was involved in providing a lot of maternity care for the practice, and by extension a lot of child health care. Over the last ten years, Julian’s focus has swung more towards care of older people, and he currently provides medical officer services to Selwyn Wilson Carlile and Hilda Ross Retirement Villages.

However, he is still involved in the provision of general medical services to all ages at Hamilton East Medical Centre.

Julian also sees a lot of people with disabilities and with chronic mental health issues. He has a son with multiple disabilities so he has a personal interest in this area.

Julian’s interests are music (he has been learning classical guitar since 1999), model trains and science fiction/fantasy (occasionally, usually when on holiday).

Manisha hails from India and did her medical training in India. She and her family have been in New Zealand since 1994 and in Hamilton since 1996.

She has been working as a general practitioner since 1999 and she has been with Hamilton East Medical Centre since 2006. She is a fellow of Royal NZ College of GP and has postgraduate qualifications in travel medicine. She provides up to date and relevant advice to travellers.  She also has particular interest in women’s health, adolescent, teenagers and children.

She enjoys holistic family medicine and other than medicine when time permits, she enjoys cooking, reading and travelling.

Margaret has been a GP since 1986 and has been working at Hamilton East Medical Centre since 1990. Margaret trained at Auckland Medical School and was then at Waikato Hospital between 1982 and 1984.

Her medical interests include women’s health and menopause, fitness, anxiety/depression, relationship issues, asthma and contraception (including Mirenas).

Margaret grew up in Te Puke in a farming family and attended Te Puke High School. She is married with three grown children. Her eldest son is married and lives in Tauranga. She has one grandchild.

Margaret’s interests include family; especially her two grandchildren, tramping/walking, gardening, reading, music, bridge, animals (she has a dog and one cat), travel and cars. Margaret also volunteers for Assistance Dogs NZ, check out their Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/adnztrust/

Born in Wellington and educated in Wanganui, Mark graduated from the Auckland Medical School in 1984.

After completing an Obstetric Diploma at Middlemore Hospital in 1986, he undertook his GP registrar training in Tauranga and Te Puke the following year. He moved with his family to Hamilton at the end of 1987 and joined the Hamilton East Medical Centre in 1990.

Mark feels most fortunate to have a fulfilling job which presents new challenges every day. He loves the variety and problem-solving that general practice brings and values the importance of building relationships with patients and the families that he serves. Mark enjoys all aspects of general practice, but his special interests include emergency medicine, minor surgery, preventative health screening and musculoskeletal medicine.

Mark has one son and three daughters and is married to Penny. In his spare time, he enjoys time with family and friends, outdoor pursuits, reading and gardening.

Nishkala was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka and has lived in New Zealand since 1988. She graduated from the University of Auckland in 1994.

Nishkala has done postgraduate training and obtained diplomas in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is a Fellow of New Zealand Royal College of General Practitioners and has been part of the Hamilton East Medical Centre team since 2001.

Nishkala’s special interests are in women’s health, child health, minor surgery and preventative medicine.

Her personal interests include music, reading, gardening, dressmaking, knitting, sports, cooking, travel, astrology and cultural activities – when time permits!

She enjoys working as part of the team at Hamilton East Medical Centre and is interested in most areas of general practice.

Zig has been in general practice for over 20 years. He qualified in Otago and has worked in Hamilton since. Married to Helen, he has two children. His interests in general practice include sports medicine, dive medicine, adolescent and geriatric medicine, minor surgery and all other facets of general medical practice.

His work has included being the doctor to the Junior All Blacks. Dr Khouri is the current doctor for the Maori All Blacks, the Chiefs and the Waikato Rugby Teams.
